Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes is one of the most ambitious Universes Beyond releases ever produced, bringing a huge swath of Marvel characters, teams, weapons and locations into a full draftable Magic set. The set code is MSH, the global release date is June 26, 2026, and the scale alone makes it a major event for both players and collectors.
Rather than centering on a single corner of Marvel lore, this release spans the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakanda, S.H.I.E.L.D., HYDRA and a long list of heroes and villains. It also stands out because of how many legendary creatures it packs into the main set. For collectors, that means a binder full of recognizable names. For Commander players, it means a deep pool of build-around options right out of the gate.
The regular set totals 296 cards, while the numbered release stretches to 384 when alternate art and Booster Fun treatments are included. A separate Marvel Universe Source Material bonus sheet, set code MAR, adds 100 reprints, with 60 of those appearing in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters for this release.
Set Overview and Release Date
Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes releases worldwide on June 26, 2026. It follows the earlier Marvel's Spider-Man product but broadens the scope dramatically, functioning as a full-scale tentpole set rather than a tighter themed crossover.
The main set features roughly 270 new-to-Magic cards and blends them with major Marvel names that are expected to drive both table play and collecting interest. The lineup includes Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Doom, Thanos, Ultron, Mister Fantastic and many more.
Rarity distribution for the regular set is as follows:
- Common: 91, including 10 common dual lands
- Uncommon: 100
- Rare: 60
- Mythic Rare: 25
- Basic Lands: 20
That footprint alone makes it one of the larger Magic releases in recent memory, but the bigger story is how many parallel treatments and premium variants are layered on top of the standard checklist.
New Mechanics in Marvel Super Heroes
The set introduces three new mechanics designed to make Marvel characters feel distinct in actual gameplay.
Power Up
Power Up is a once-per-game activated ability that lets a creature unleash a signature moment, adding +1/+1 counters and a character-specific reward. One of the most interesting gameplay twists is the cost reduction. If a creature powers up the same turn it enters the battlefield, the activation cost is reduced by that creature's mana value. That makes splashy cards like Thanos, the Mad Titan especially dangerous as soon as they land.
Teamwork
Teamwork appears on selected instants and sorceries as an optional additional cost. Players can tap creatures whose combined power meets the listed requirement to unlock a stronger effect. It is a flavorful way to represent heroes combining strengths, and it should matter heavily in token decks, go-wide builds and Commander tables.
Plan
Plan is a new enchantment subtype tied to villains and schemes. These cards build plan counters over time and eventually cash them in for a much larger payoff. For villain fans, it appears to be one of the set's more thematic design elements.
The set also uses returning mechanics such as Connive, Improvise and Sneak, while Marvel-specific elements like Vibranium and the Infinity Stones help tie the flavor package together.
Four Commander Decks at Launch
Marvel Super Heroes launches with four preconstructed Commander decks, each built around a different Marvel faction or identity.
- Avengers Assemble is a Jeskai Hero typal deck led by Captain America, Team Leader, with Director Nick Fury as the backup legend.
- The Fantastic Four is a four-color deck built around the team's core members and a noncreature spells theme.
- Wakanda Forever is a Selesnya artifact build led by T'Challa, the Black Panther, with Shuri, the Black Panther as the alternate commander.
- Doom Prevails is a Grixis villains deck fronted by Doctor Doom, King of Latveria, with Loki, the Deceiver as the alternate option.
Each deck contains 100 cards, 30 of them new to Magic, plus 10 double-sided tokens, a deck box, a strategy insert and a reference card. Collector's Edition versions are also available, with every card done in surge foil.
For Commander buyers, that high count of original cards is a major draw. Universes Beyond decks have often leaned on reprints, but this launch appears to deliver a much stronger identity for each Marvel faction.
Chase Cards and Collector Appeal
From a collector standpoint, the headline card is clearly The Mind Stone. Its textless cosmic foil version is positioned as the ultra-rare chase of the release and should be one of the hardest pulls associated with the set.
That is only part of the premium story. Marvel Super Heroes includes several themed card treatments that should keep variant hunters busy:
- Borderless Classic Comic cards
- Borderless Source Material cards
- Borderless Logo cards
- Showcase Panel cards
- Surge Foils in Collector's Edition Commander decks
- Textless Cosmic Foil treatment for The Mind Stone
Borderless Classic Comic versions lean into Silver Age comic styling, while Source Material cards place Magic frames over original Marvel comic art. That combination gives the set unusually strong crossover appeal beyond standard Magic audiences.
Among the mythics drawing the most buzz are Iron Man, Ultron, Mister Fantastic and Molecule Man. Mjolnir, Hammer of Thor is another obvious attention-grabber because it features the Worthy mechanic, allowing only legendary, non-villain red or white creatures to wield it.
Several legendary comic artists also make Magic-related appearances here, including Alex Ross, Dan Adkins and Tony S. Daniel, which adds another layer of collector interest to premium versions.

On top of that, several cards receive Marvelized names over existing game pieces, including Orbital Vibranium Bomb as Scourglass, The Watcher's Warning as Mind's Dilation, Loki's Double as Spark Double, Black Panther's Claws as Hammer of Nazahn and Skybreaker, Sword of Bashenga as Sword of the Animist.
Collector Targets to Watch Early
Collectors opening product in the first wave will likely focus on a few obvious names. The Mind Stone in textless cosmic foil sits at the top. After that, premium variants of Tony Stark // The Invincible Iron Man, Doctor Doom, Thanos, the Mad Titan, Thor, God of Thunder, Black Widow, Super Spy, King T'Challa // Black Panther, Hope Enduring and Ultron, Artificial Malevolence should be among the earliest market leaders.
On the Commander side, Galactus, Devourer of Worlds, Molecule Man, Director Nick Fury, Loki, the Deceiver and Shuri, the Black Panther look like strong candidates for sustained collector demand, especially in borderless and surge foil treatments.
For players building rather than speculating, the set's unusually high number of legendary creatures may end up being the real long-term attraction. Even beyond the headline mythics, the checklist is packed with recognizable uncommon and rare names, which gives Marvel Super Heroes unusual depth for Cube building, Commander brewing and binder collecting alike.
